Would you like to be a part of a friendly museum team?
The Govan Stones project is looking for enthusiastic people to help provide an excellent visitor experience at our heritage centre. You don’t require any previous knowledge of Govan’s medieval history, or previous museum experience – all the relevant information is included in our accessible volunteer training package!
The museum offers a variety of roles and activities to best suit your volunteering interests. You might enjoy training up to become a tour guide. Alternatively, you might prefer to provide a warm welcome to visitors at the front desk.
You can also choose to assist with the museum’s education and activities programme, delivering fun learning activities for all ages. However, if you’d rather help behind the scenes, you’re welcome to contribute to our social media strategy or assist with research.
We’re happy to tailor volunteer roles to help you gain experience for your CV, and can also help you access experience with a wide range of museums and heritage organisations.
Don’t worry, volunteering with us doesn’t have to be a formal experience. Many of our volunteers view the heritage centre mainly as a welcoming place to socialise, enjoy a cup of tea, and make new friends
There’s no minimum time commitment; you tell us how often you’d like to get involved and whether you’d like a regularly scheduled afternoon (e.g. weekly/ fortnightly).

If you’d like to get involved in heritage workshops with schools, Young Archaeologist Club activities and family-friendly events and fun days.
The museum often plays host to concerts, screenings, art exhibitions, conferences, lectures and more. Find out about upcoming events.
Occasionally we get the chance to excavate inside our ancient churchyard, one of the oldest in Scotland. Register your interest in future archaeological volunteering. Training provided, no prior experience necessary.
